Re: UPDATE***39 Ford deluxe can't remove cam

Just assume you'll need new cam bearings . . . they are not expensive.

Re: Adapting a later Columbia to a 1934 axle

You have it correct. You use a stock bell on the driver's side and a modified Columbia housing on the right side. In the end, you'll be using late 32 - 34 axles and the width will be the same as...

Naw, that is Jeff Fowler . . . he is smoking a bitty cigar, not a blunt! LOL

Re: Rebuilt flathead tight - too tight?

I checked my notes on a recent 3 5/16 + .040 engine with a 4.250 stroke crankshaft, Ross pistons, metric rings - was 20 lbs of torque to rotate the lower end (without the pan or timing cover on).

Re: 1932/36 Condenser replacement.

That is what I'd do if I was running these early distributors. I tend to use the bigger 32mfd units (though they're about twice what the smaller ones are).

Re: 39 Ford deluxe can't remove cam

How about the fuel-pump push-rod?

Re: Oil leak

You could try a stock lower-pressure pump - as it currently appears to have the later 49-53 pump - which will put out more volume and pressure than stock.

While I hate to mention an alternative...

Re: '34 Truck comes to live with it's brother.

What type of speed were you able to maintain on the uphill parts of the grade?

Re: 13/4 intake

Here it the last commercially available Fowler 14-71 blower (I know - this is totally off topic!). This is a rendering I did with SolidWorks:

Re: 13/4 intake

Here are some links to vids related to cutting and installing new seats. You'll see my good friend Jeff Fowler in the vids - this was the last engine he worked on before he closed his business in...

Re: 13/4 intake

I use 1.72" intakes and put larger hardened valve seats in the block. You have to have the special hard seat cutter to put the larger seats in.

The seat I use is an SBI - SB1750-8.

If you...

Re: Crab distributor vacuum line

I can see no issue with doing this. You'll need an 1/8" NPT tap. This should work out just fine. Obviously make sure the vacuum channel is clear on the intake and that you don't clog it up with...

Re: 1932/36 Condenser replacement.

I use Vertex magneto condensers on my Harman-Collins distributors - as they tend to be very high quality (though expensive). They're about all I run these days.

Re: 1932/36 Condenser replacement.

I don't try to run original NOS ones - as they're frequently bad as the insulation and mylar material inside of them tends to dry and crack. Then they short out internally. In many cases they will...

Re: Rebuilt flathead tight - too tight?

The type and number of rings also plays into this. A 4-ring piston with cast iron oil rings will have a lot more drag than a 3-ring piston with metric rings and modern oil-rings.

It is hard to...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Just for informational fun, here is some information that I captured from Barney Navarro in the early 2000's - specifically related to pop-ups and his then experimental "High-Dome" heads.

He and I...

Re: 32 press on cam gear

From my perspective, I just don't rust any of the fiber gears at this point. Maybe they'll work fine (given the limited spring pressure of a 32 engine), but why take a chance. I'd find an aluminum...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I think your method is just fine. Maybe not as dimensionally accurate as a big doming tool in a big milling machine, but good enough. Also, one needs multiple doming tools - for the two quite...

Re: Model B Ford 4 cylinder identification

I'd think about using a 32 - B transmission with the later gear set (39 - 48). You'll have a good synchro setup for 2nd and 3rd gear and parts are readily available.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

The block has been decked - as having the piston a bit above the deck is not a bad thing - as it helps tighten up the quench without having to mill the heads a bunch. If you think about it, you have...

Re: 1932 Ford shock absorbers taking them apart

I have a 20' I-Beam that I would probably attach to . . . as I can anticipate a lot of force needed to pull these dudes apart!

Re: 1932 Ford shock absorbers taking them apart

I knew there had to be some sort of "band-clamp" tool to pull the covers . . . thanks for sharing the whole set of tools. I could make most of them - but I have to decide if this is more important...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Plus, because you've increased the cubic inches to 276, you'll pick compression back up due to the increased cylinder volume.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Great News! Is it good that you have a bunch of parts to choose from and that you're taking the time to get this all figured out. You definitely don't want .025 over the crown as once that fills...
