Re: Front bumper differences

'AR' term was never used on bumpers.

The open end bar is A-17757 which was basically a superseded Model-T part number. This is what is commonly referred to as the open end bumper.

Then...

Re: Kick panels

Then do it. Cut several pieces of cardboard and trim them to fit the Sill, the Sill Extension, and around the bottom side of the tank. Then tape them together and there is your pattern.

Re: Front bumper differences

Hypothetically no difference between what was used on a Pickup vs. a passenger car, -however to muddy up the water, the 1930 front bumper was about 63" long until August of that year when it was...

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio

Bob, I think with the right camshaft and engine package, a 3.27 will be just fine. I have installed both 3.54 and 3.27 gear sets in customer's vehicles. The biggest thing I think that dictates...

Re: Photo request: Page 11, "Model A News"

Marshall, these are pictures I took at the World Meet of the late Davey Lopez's all original '29 Fordor. I likely have some others elsewhere if you need more.

All we do in my shop is tape the...

Re: KRW Combination Machine

That is likely. It is likely because that machine shop realized that rebuilding Model-T/A/B engines is not as profitable as doing other tasks in their machine shop.

In my own shop where we do...

Re: Jazz Age '28 Sport Coupe on Hemmings Auction

While I understand your point, consider how many 32 - 34 Fords are running around with unprotected tanks behind the body. Surely most would agree that the rear bumper on those too is merely a...

Re: Jazz Age '28 Sport Coupe on Hemmings Auction

Ummm, not really. People buy 'shine', ...and the people that will praise this car is a younger and middle-age onlooker who typically have money, -or have access to money. The typical older...

Re: Mid-Atlantic Pre-War Swap Meet, 05/10/2024-05/11/2024, Luray, VA

Actually, that is kinda confusing as I think that is for those of us who are going on the Tour after the swap meet. Two weeks ago when I was in Luray with Dennis, he told me they had 64 cars signed...

Re: The absolute 'MINIMUM' cylinder wall thickness....

#1 - Yes, based on the thoughts of mine and several others, the prudent method is a maximum overbore of 0.060 and then sleeve back to 3.875" on a used cylinder block. The only other caveat is the...

Re: 3 window coupe

Dave the picture is distorted (-at least on my screen) but that body appears to be a regular 45B body, ...and not one of the Budd-built 3W bodies. Am I mistaken??

Re: The absolute 'MINIMUM' cylinder wall thickness....

Yes, ...this is one of the main reasons why I purchased a sonic tester just to be able to find thin spots on these engines. Imagine if you had finished all of the machine work on that engine only to...

Re: engine compression levels.

Actually, it generally tells quite a bit. When used in conjunction with a sensitive RPM gauge, it can help diagnose items like a worn cylinder(s), or too lean fuel mixture, or leaking manifold, etc....

Re: The absolute 'MINIMUM' cylinder wall thickness....

Bob, I agree with you however the print shows the finished thickness size to be 0.250". It does not give a + or - tolerance with that number. Based on the sheer quantity of blocks that were cast,...

Re: engine compression levels.

Compression Tests are not really a good indicator. Worn rings with cylinders filled with oil can equal those numbers, -or more. What you need to do is perform a cylinder leakage test and then a...

This thread is going in a direction of "I have done this and gotten away with it..." which is NOT what I intended this thread to be. To me, this is much akin to saying I have driven 100mph several...

Joe, if the charging rate could not be determined, it was because there was not any load detected by the Ammeter, -or the wiring is routed incorrectly.

Next, is this "3-wire Alternator" using an...

The absolute 'MINIMUM' cylinder wall thickness....

If you had to stake all your worldly possessions on getting this answer correct, I am asking this question regarding overheating due to cylinder bores that are too thin. What would you say the...
