Re: cause of 3rd gear slipping out?

Swap out the shift tower with a known working one and see if that "fixes" the problem. Do not bother with a full rebuild unless you need it.

Re: Early 28 Power House generator info

John, I seem to recall an article about this in the MAFCA restorer magazine probably 6 months back. Someone rebuilt his and did some documentation on it. Over the winter I am likely going to be...

Re: Radiator Flush

When I first got my car I flushed my system several time over the first few years and ran the engine with vinegar-water. It helped clear out a lot of gunk. My advice is that if you decide to run the...

Re: Fuel shut off valve

Here you go Lenny..... I decided to make a quick post on my car's blog which I haven't updated in ages. The link has a video of my secondary shut off set up and a photo.

Re: Fuel shut off valve

Yes, you will unfortunately have to drain the tank and hope you can get out the old shut off valve. Alternatively, you can install a secondary shut off (modern) before the carb. While not original...

Odd Ammeter Reading

My Ammeter was not going positive, so I decided I likely had a bad cut out. I replaced the cut out, polarized the generator (jumping the cut out for a second with the car running), and now I have a...

Re: Cutout Rebuild Question

I ordered one of the lousy mechanical ones which will arrive in a about a week. Somewhere in my boxes of stuff I have a good solid state diode one waiting to be found and used.

Out of curiosity,...

Re: Cutout Rebuild Question

I was able to force it open, clean some contacts, but wasn't able to get it to "click" right. It seems to be all intact. I am hopeful to borrow a soldering gun strong enough to help me refresh the...

Re: Cutout Rebuild Question

I can't get the dang housing off the cutout in spite of filing away at the welds for quite some time. I'll get back at it later this week and post some photos/videos. In the interim, I guess I'll...

Re: Cutout Rebuild Question

The one I was able to open so far had the hair wire broken at the base of the winding shaft as opposed to the base of the cut out... so this one might need to be rewound to work.

Now I am just...

Re: Cutout Rebuild Question

Great video. Yes, I mean breaking the cutout down and rebuilding it if needed. I haven't tried it either but find myself without a working cut out and with the desire to drive my car tomorrow. I...

Cutout Rebuild Question

Does anyone have a good step-by-step guide to rebuilding a cutout? If so, please share. I have some old notes from the late/great Tom Wesenberg but I can't seem to find anything comprehensive.

Re: Westchester County NY Model As?

Bill,
I probably won't make it this weekend, but do want to connect with you guys. Do you guys have regular meetings? Might there be any members close to me?

Westchester County NY Model As?

I recently relocated to New Rochelle in Westchester County, NY and would love to touch base with some local Model A owners. If you are a nearby Model A person, let me know.

Thanks, Seth

Re: 1928 Phaeton curtain pan hinges.

Ok, now I have to go out to my early 1929 phaeton and look for the curtain tray. I had no idea such a thing even existed and now want to see if the car I've been driving for about 10 years has one.

Re: Over Fill Oil

Why drain? When I was overfilled, I just llet it overflow out to the cotter pinned drain at the bottom of the bell housing. I just put a container under the hole to catch the dripping when I was in...

Re: Thermo Quail

It isn't the easiest to read and even harder to read at night. You can test it with water and a cooking thermometer in your kitchen.

Re: Making New Powerhouse Rings!!!!!

Gary, I did not know that. Seth

Kurt, I've never tried to remove/save, but have to assume that it is more efficient to do so than to try to remanufacture the brush holders themselves.

Re: My "new" 1931 Phaeton

I've said it before and I will say it again, "If you are going to buy an old car, it should be a 4-door convertible. "

Re: Making New Powerhouse Rings!!!!!

Syncro, Keep your hands on the brushholders and the generators. It is only a matter of time for there to be enough interest or for the manufacturing costs to be low enough to justify the...

Re: Making New Powerhouse Rings!!!!!

The response was lower than was anticipated but I am getting a few emails/calls. I'm going to push until it makes sense. The big challenge is going to be getting it done in a cost effective manner.

Re: Generator Motoring / Cutout sticking

Mike, I'll eventually get around to it. I had the back up in my garage and bought a new back up from Brattons that came within 48 hours.

Don't forget to clean and repaint the firewall and engine compartment if it needs it.
