Re: 56 merc rough ride

I think I’m going to play with different air pressures and see if it changes anything. If not I’ll start by changing rear shocks, won’t hurt as they look pretty old.
Thanks

Talking Re: 56 merc rough ride

I would say somewhere in between lol, I’ll take some measurements after work today to determine trim height. I’ll snap some pics of shocks too.
Thanks for the reply

Re: 56 merc rough ride

Thank you, the car is not lowered or bottoming out. It’s like I can feel every bump in the road, like a stiff ride I would say. When I push down on the front end it doesn’t bounce a lot up and down....

56 merc rough ride

Hi all, I have a 56 merc, all stock with about 62,000 miles. It seems to ride rough, like I feel every bump. Tires are fairly new radials. I’m thinking of changing out the front strut shocks and rear...

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

Okay fellas, so I checked another cylinder that had good compression with the air test. Basically the same level of air noise from same places. I also did use the compression tester without the...

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

Update - I’ve adjusted all of the valves, compression on number 7 is still the same. Next I did the air pressure test. I decided to loosen both the number 7 valves until they were both closed with no...

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

I’ve read that some people have good luck with that stuff, sometimes it’s worth a try!
Thanks

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

You’ve given me so much good info here, much appreciated the time you put in! I’m glad it’s pointing to a valve rather than rings. I don’t see any of the signs that you said about a head gasket...

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

I actually just read about that for the first time yesterday when searching different threads, I thought it was a joke at first. I’ve also heard about using sea foam treatment as well. Hopefully I...

Talking Re: Low compression in one cylinder

I’ll try a pressure test after I check valve adjustment. Getting a remote starter delivered tomorrow to make the job easier. My 11 year old daughter is great at cranking for compression tests, but I...

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

I love hearing stories like this! If it’s not a valve adjustment issue I hope that trick will work on mine. Thanks for sharing

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

I did the compression test again on cylinder 7 after adding oil, no change. I did it a couple of times just to be sure. Like dmsfrr mentioned, since the vacuum is pretty steady at 20 to 22 inches,...

Re: Low compression in one cylinder

I read about the oil trick and I will try that next. It does have electronic ignition. As far as I can tell it is firing on all cylinders. My vacuum reads at a steady 20 pounds.
Thanks for the tips

Low compression in one cylinder

You were right, just reached my hand way up through the wires and twisted the socket out, off to get a new bulb. It’s amazing how easy some things are when you get help from someone who knows!
