looks to be plastic might be to keep the shaft for hitting the starter bolt.

the starter spring is sticking to the knob
but why. must be room to release because when taped it lets go.
why would it stick?

I tried pulling back on the shaft from inside and outside
didn't stop until I taped on switch.

I have never had this before.
I was bumping the starter from under the hood .
it stuck and kept turning over until I tap the switch
changed the switch to a new one .
still does it.

I replaced the motometer with a plain cap
no more problem.

I did not have curtains and it the was outside
when it snowed I would open both doors and
