Re: Cross Country in a Model A

During COVID, a fellow posting on Facebook as Tebo Barn drove his Tudor cross-country and back........quite a story!

Re: Cleaning a Horn Commutator question

This is slightly off topic of the OP, but a Dremel spinning a small wire brush worked well to clean/polish my horn commutator. Done in just a few seconds.

Re: LED Tail Lights - Adding Resistors

An update. I switched out the (thermal) flasher unit to a different brand I had on hand. The flash rate is now quite acceptable. Interestingly, the flash rate is identical on both left (includes...

Re: LED Tail Lights - Adding Resistors

Synchro909, the turn signals are combined with the brake light in the tail light units.

Re: LED Tail Lights - Adding Resistors

Thanks very much for all the suggestions. The car is 6v, + ground. The front flashers are the amber lights that mount between the bumper bars. I'll check their wattage and/or see if there's a higher...

Re: LED Tail Lights - Adding Resistors

Thanks for the link, shew01. The resistors I have are similar, though lower wattage and slightly higher resistance.

I think I've installed the resistors correctly - if anyone has done this and...

Re: Horn Help

The horn sounds when the horn button is pushed, completing a circuit to ground. With the leads connected to the horn, both electrical contacts will read battery voltage when measured to ground with...

Re: LED Tail Lights - Adding Resistors

The Signal Stat 900 is a US-made turn signal brand. Synder's catalog pictures it (or one just like it) on page A-170 of their 2021 catalog.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried the electronic...

LED Tail Lights - Adding Resistors

After installing Signal Stat 900 turn signals a few years ago, I recently converted the tail lights to LED units. The flasher is the old style bimetal type, and the flash rate is quite high. Today I...

Re: 1931 Victoria Front Pass Window Problems

Not saying this is happening to you, but maybe....

I had issues with the window glass in my A400 doors. They both were really hard to raise or lower. I removed the felt tracks and found that the...

Re: Tudor Window Felts

Though a bit off topic...replacing Tudor door window glass and felts is a walk in the park compared to doing the back windows!! I recently replaced both back side windows, the rear window and the...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

jb-ob, thanks for your input.

So you are saying that I could restore the surface of the existing linings by doing a little sanding.....I will try it and see if I can now lock the drum with the...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

Hi Paul. Nice to hear from you!

I THINK it's possible that one of the problems is caused by the glazed linings. I don't see how the original hard brake pedal would be related to that, but then I...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

jb-ob, thanks for your input! A couple of things:

1. After installing the new shoe I kept checking the drum as I tightened the adjusting wedge and could feel it progress through stages from free...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

My investigation continues. I replaced one shoe on the RF brake with one I happened to have in stock. This a new shoe with an untouched woven lining with...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

You're welcome, Neil. I believe that explaining outcomes and fixes is an important part of a forum like this one.

That said, I have been strongly advised that the inability to lock up the drums by...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

Yesterday I replaced the adjuster wedges and adjuster shafts on both front brakes. The adjuster wedges were both badly worn. I can adjust the brakes from free-wheeling to significant friction - but...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

jb-ob....I agree with you about adjusting the brakes, but how would a worn adjusting wedge affect setting the brake rods? I plan to pull the wedge out for an inspection this morning....if it looks...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

Brent - thanks for your suggestion; the wedge moves smoothly - no binding.

I also checked the cross shaft for any binding or looseness at the bushings - there's no binding - the shaft turns...

Re: Hard Brake Pedal - Update on Post #9

nkaminar, I believe the problem is in the front. I'll pull the front drums and check.

Will, I checked the rear brake levers. They, as well as the photos in Andrews Vol I, have the clevis angled...
