Re: Stalls a stoplight

Great ideas...but what would cause a perfectly running carb to suddenly stall at a stoplight?

Stalls a stoplight

For the last year the car ran fine with a professionally rebuilt Zenith carb. Just this week it has started stalling a stoplights unless I pull the throttle lever down or give a pump on the gas...

No longer idling at stop

My 1929 Fordor has been running very well since I put on a rebuilt carburetor (one of the ones sold on ebay). Once installed, I could slow down very fast for a stop light and it would maintain idle....

Head Gasket Blown or Not

If the head gasket shows signs of slight leaking (crusting) in several places after driving at higher speeds (45 mph+), is it considered blown? When does this low level leaking affect performance and...

Gas Gauge Float Replacement

Is it possible to replace the gas gauge float through the port you put the gas in? I can see the float and it is not floating on top and usually shows tank is near zero when half full.

Re: Acceleration Smooth but Deceleration Rough

As noted by some...maybe this is the way Model A's (stock) work when coasting...is it the same for rebuilt engines?

Re: Acceleration Smooth but Deceleration Rough

I guess the question is, how is the deceleration on those with stock engines? Is anyone's smooth or are they mostly rough?

Acceleration Smooth but Deceleration Rough

When my 1929 Model A is under load such as going up a hill or slight incline, the acceleration is very smooth. I typically drive on the open road at 45-50 mph and my engine is stock. However, when I...

Restoring paint

My 1929 Model A Fordor has paint from over 50 years ago with little cracking or peeling. In general it is in pretty good shape, however, it shows its years. What is the best approach for restoring...

Re: Head Removal Tip Needed

Ok so

loosen nuts with WD-40 for a week or two with tapping
drain water
start engine - head will separate and engine will stop

What about the distributor? Do I need to loosen the lock screw?

Head Removal Tip Needed

Re: Running smooth above 35 mph

It is not that the engine is shaking, it is that the acceleration is not smooth, almost like the gas is intermittent or skipping.

Running smooth above 35 mph

My 1929 runs pretty smooth up to 35 mph and cruises well at 35 mph. It idles well too. Above 35 or so, it seems to get rougher but will easily go from 35-45. I usually don't drive faster than 45. I...

I have the same question as BILLF, if GAV is nearly closed and still running rich by getting blackened spark plugs, what can you do to the carb to fix it?

Re: Model A is "bucking." Why dat?

I have had a similar problem when coasting down a hill or decelerating. What is a Model A (no mods) supposed to sound like when slowing down say from 45 mph to 30 mph when coming to a stop light? Is...
