Re: Odd Frame Repair?
It could be that they used good old "Yankee Ingenuity" and used what they had laying around. Do you know if the spring patch is from the top leaf of your spring?

Re: 1932 Ford shock absorbers taking them apart
Please note, any information I pass along is Model A only, I have no experience rebuilding '32 shocks. As David points out, the B prefix is similar, but I have never rebuilt one. One word of caution,...

Re: 1932 Ford shock absorbers taking them apart
Sometimes a plumbers strap wrench will work. If not I will try to move the lock ring first by using a punch in the small holes and tapping the cover all around to try to free the threads. A large...

Re: 1932 Ford shock absorbers taking them apart
I would suggest purchasing the book by Les Pearson on how the Model A shock is rebuilt, it's available from Model A distributors. I have a fixture that I use to crack open the Model A shock, where...

Re: 1947 Rear Axle Worn Down
Unfortunately you are going to need a complete rebuild, axles, seal, bearing, hub and you might need some work done on the bearing race. The entire rear needs a complete flush to get all those metal...

Re: Interesting Flathead Marine Engine
If the engine was used in a salt water application it might be junk. Salt water, cast iron and heat don't play nice together. You won't find an engine rebuilder on both the north and south shore of...

Re: 1948 Mercury - 4 mystery holes
The 59A-8224 "Shield, radiator grill to apron support and reinforcement assy." is clearly pictured in the 1938 to1946 Red Book, with out anything in the four holes. I know we are talking 1948 Mercury...

Re: 1941 Ford bumper end pieces
I initially wanted a set for my '46 "Woodie" but no matter how I installed them, they just looked wrong. I gave them back from the guy I borrowed them from.

Re: Powder coat VS paint for wheels
The wheels on my '46 Woodie are powder coated and have held up well for 20 years. The trim rings on my car really bite into the wheel so yes, they will scratch when you remove them, but in reality...

Re: 28-32 N.O.S. shocks
The correct part numbers for Model A shock absorbers are A-18015-B and A-18016-B. The A-18015-B is a clockwise rotation shock for the right front and left rear. The A-18016-B is a anti clockwise...

Re: 28-32 N.O.S. shocks
Just taking the Model A shock apart can be a real project. I have a 1/2" steel plate that I bolt the shock to and use a 3/4" drive, 3' breaker bar with a 1 and 1/2" deep socket to remove the flange...

Re: 28-32 N.O.S. shocks
The Model A Ford is a fairly complex part. It has ball checks, needle valves, vent plugs that have very small tolerances. I would bet that all the passages are clogged with the old glycerin oil that...

Re: Speedometer for 46 Ford Car
If you do try the repair yourself and I agree with others that say don't try it, do not use WD-40, use clock oil. Over time WD-40 will gum it up.

Re: making your own body trim clips
Restoration Specialties & Supply has just about any moulding clip you can need. I don't know what your's looks like but they have several listed for '40 Plymouth. They also have a great catalog.

Two "Woodie" commercial pictures that come to mind are of the Ansel Adams photographer on the roof of his 1941 Cadillac Station Wagon and Dorothea Lang, also a photographer, atop her 1933 Ford Wagon....

Re: Hershey Stats
What get's me is the people on their golf carts "hugging" the flea market vendor tables and expect you to get out of their way so they don't have to get out of their cart. I'll stand their for 10...
