Re: 3 window coupe
The slant windshield is a sign of subcontract manufacture. Ford didn't make the slant windshield bodies. It's either a Briggs prototype or it's a custom. Ford's first three window coupes were the...

Re: How to test '36 voltage cutout off the car?
They have to be set a bit above the max battery voltage to do the job. This way, only the higher voltage from the generator will close the switch and bring it on line. The switch should open above...

Re: Question on Hooking Up Dwell Meter
On four cylinder Fords, just setting the points to proper gap will generally get the dwell time within specs. It certainly doesn't hurt to check it. The early V8 distributor has an extra set of...

Re: Elliot Ness roadster
He had quite a history. An Americal citizen by birth, he didn't learn english till his family moved back to the states from France and Italy. He and his brother raced an outboard boat in Venice at an...

Re: Gas Tank ID
The filler bung with external bayonet lugs is not common in the modern era. The only caps I've seen of that style are for waste water connections but they are larger than that. It may be difficult to...

Re: Newbie with '29 RPU
Many AV8s have been put together but it is a lot of work. The Bishop/Tardel book describes the way a lot of folks did it back in the day. The HAMB has a lot more information about such mods. It's a...

Re: Newbie with '29 RPU
Folks call them roadster pickups but the were really just an open cab pickup. Some folks modify the bottom rear of the top with snap fasteners so that is can be removed. Others make custom folding...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle
Itslow has a point. For spring over axle a person would have to use a narrow rear spring than fits over the mid section (unobtanium). Extend the frame 7.5" to include a crossmember for behind axle...

Re: The 60-A, B, C Fordor Sedans
This is an old thread. Some of the original posters don't frequent the forum much anymore, including the original poster, and at least one is no longer with us. I would suggest starting a new thread...

Re: Newbie with '29 RPU
I believe that the back of the cab wall had either had vertical wood supports or horizontal. I think the seat back cushion attached to them. See Link.
The cab corners look almost complete as far...

Re: Spotlights on a 1950 Ford
Try plain old mineral spirits. That stuff even loosens rtv. I use Lubriplate 130AA for door latches and other smaller mechanisms that get wet on occasion. It's NGLI-1 so it's less viscous than most.

Re: Flat head back firing pop. pop over and over
Intake valves don't stick as often as the exhausts do. Compression check will tell which ones are sticking if that's the problem.
Backfire by definition is when the engine coughs back through the...

Re: Fuse blowing
Ford used auto reset circuit breakers from the 30s clear up into the 50s. Early cars burned up mostly due to no circuit protection at all. Fuses will do the job but a person should carry a spare and...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle
Most of them use the A axle and wheels so they can have the juice brake but stock look.
I wonder how many quick change axles have been narrowed for custom race applications. Nothing is new under...
