For what's is worth...setting the timing using the nu rex wrench is a great quick ball park way to get you on the road. I would get the red Les Andrews book and follow that procedure using a test...

So I went back through my notes and I see the red wire (+ coil side) goes to the ignition switch where it then magically turns into the armored cable and goes to the points. So I'll answer my own...

Question on Hooking Up Dwell Meter
Just for fun I wanted to get a base dwell reading. I have an old meter that says it works with 6 or 12 volts. It says for positive ground just reverse the leads so the black ground goes on the coil...

The car won't start if you lose voltage on either side of the fuse holder....with the key on. So let's think about this....key off voltage ok...key on lose voltage...seems to be a direct short...but...

Easy first step...put a jumper between the two posts on the terminal box...this bypasses a bad amp meter.
