Mass YOM plate how to check availability?

I need to see if the number has already been assigned. Is there a site to check it? I have gone through the MA RMV site but all they show is a form to register.I only want to see if it can be used....

The engine did not have a number so that they could be swapped out when a rebuild was necessary . Transmission was numbered.

That works # indicates 1922 according to my guide book. Wadsworth grade refers to the case not the works.

More likely a phone #. 1936 passenger #'s are in the 3 million range.
