Re: Why lock washers AND safety wire???

"I am going through a Model A transmission for an acquaintance who was a terrible leaker, mostly from the rear" Is the acquaintance or the transmission a leaker from the rear? Sorry, just had to...

Re: insurance

Liability insurance is good to have. I have a broadform policy for that. (any car I drive) None of my 14 cars (modern or antique) have any specific insurance.

Re: Model A parts at Autozone?!

I have had good luck with NAPA and Carquest for old car parts. I never had much luck with Autozone. I don't even bother to check there anymore. Maybe they are getting better or carry different stuff...

Re: H2O vs. Pre-Mix...???

Regarding antifreeze being poison to animals....In many states including Washington, all new antifreeze sold must have a bittering agent added so it tastes bitter. Presumably this will keep pets from...

Re: Riveting Brake Linings

Mikeinnj

Thanks for the response. I am still a little fuzzy about drilling holes for the rivets and how much to countersink.

Thanks

Riveting Brake Linings

I am replacing the parking brake linings on my '29 A. I bought new linings and one of those $25 riveting tools from MAC's. I have never done it before. Are there instructional videos or directions...

Vacuum leak

I replaced the cracked exhaust manifold on my completely stock A. I got the new one from Synder's. When putting it back together there was about a .010-.015 discrepancy between the level of
the new...

Re: shop heat

My 30 X 48 shop has no heat. So if something really has to get done I move the car to the much smaller (and warmer) garage that is attached to my house.
Here in Western Washington there are only...

Re: Manifold

There is better atomization of the air/ fuel mix with preheating (particularly when the engine is cold.
In the 70's-80's cars had Thermatic Air Cleaners with that heat stove on the exhaust manifold...

Re: Model A Thermosyphon with NO Waterpump

It will not hurt a generator if it is not spinning (ie:-broken belt) The only problem is you will not have a charging system and everything will be running off the battery until it goes dead and then...

Re: Pure Gold/white Model A

Probably costs a bundle to custom gold plate stuff like that. Ironically gold plating is put on so thin that the value of the actual gold is practically zero.

Re: What is your collector car Pet Peeve?

1)Improper use of the word "mint". A restored car for example is not mint. It may be as good as new. But something is only mint once. Kind of like virginity- once you lose it, it does not come back....

Re: Great auto video

Rene,

Do you know who made this video and what it is for? It obviously was somewhat expensive to make, with the high quality video, costuming and sets.

Dumb Unnecessary modifications

There was a thread on here about dumb reproduction parts.

The dumbest most unnecessary thing I have seen in the current MAC's "A"
catalog is the $89.75 oil drain kit. You screw in a special...

Mine does that also, but I usually have to drive the car more than an inch to have it happen.
(Sorry I had to throw that in....) I suspect a new window regulator would fix it. If there is a easier...
