Re: Water Pump Options
Easiest, and you can do it without removing the water pump from the head, is to add in another layer of the leaded packing and see if it works. Don't remove the old, put the new on top of it. If that...

Re: Front Leaf Spring
Bob - I just went through this (also a 30 TS). My front spring had three broken leaves when I disassembled it.
The Eaton Detroit Model A standard duty front spring is an 8-leaf equivalent to the...

Re: Horn
On a related note, I’ve found that it is very difficult to get the horn rod out of the steering column on the closed cars without removing the steering column and steering box from the car. You do...

Re: Horn
To get to the button you need to pull the horn rod out. The button assembly is attached within the light handle by a keeper with four tabs, accessible from the back of the handle.

Re: Horn
This explains it much better. Here’s how I would proceed:
1. Disconnect battery
2. Remove both wires from the horn and secure them so they don’t touch each other, nor any metal.
3. Reconnect...

Re: Horn
Thanks, Synchro, good points. I made the presumption that since he can get the horn to work the issue was likely external, not internal. At least that’s easier to troubleshoot.

Re: Horn
Tom - the horn operates on an interrupted ground basis. Power is fed to the horn, through the horn, then to the light switch bundle. When you depress the horn button you complete the path from the...

Re: Removing stuck distributor and lower shaft
If this is a two piece shaft then the collar you see flush with the bottom of the block is pinned onto the short shaft that goes up through the distributor. The lower shaft it is a "slip" fit in to...

Re: Leakless Water pump
D - I'd run it as is and not worry about it unless you find you are having an issue. You may already have the newer version of the impeller on your water pump. If you're curious it's easy enough to...

Re: Distributor Question
Get your engine to TDC #1 and time the distributor that's in the car. Without moving the engine, remove that distributor and insert the second one. Time that one the same way. Both will now be timed...

Re: Distributor Question
This how my spare distributor is set up - pre-gapped and pre-timed to the car, so on the road it’s just plug-n-play if needed.

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio
Bob - What you gain at the top you lose at the low end. Also, with an O/D you gain an intermediate gear in that wide gap between second and third, useful both at lower speeds and climbing/descending...

Re: Head stud to block
It can be done well. It also can be, and more often is, done not well. The latter is what happened to my block. Fortunately taking the head on and off is not a frequent operation.

Ditto to NK. Be very careful that you drill the hole centered and vertical. I'd suggest that you install the head with a couple of the other studs and snug them slightly to keep the head from...

Re: Hole inside front block
Assuming you’re talking about the hole at the front of the oil galley. Yes it’s normal, to allow a bit of oil spray to lube the cam gear teeth.
If you mean a hole in the bottom of the oil galley...
