Thanks for your reply.
I originally thought they were for some aftermarket thing, but the mat material still covers the hole on one of the originals.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but some of this applies.
Attached are pictures of my 1931 running boards. The left two are Rootlieb
boards from a few years ago and they do not have the radius...
