Re: steering column

Wheelbarrow wheel bearings can be used in the end of the column to keep the shaft centered in the tube before installing the u-joint. They are available in several sizes, and are cost effective.

WD 40 works well as a starting fluid without washing down the cylinders. Learned this trick from a small engine mechanic.

Nicop is also sold at our local Carquest, and NAPA stores. With the it's corrosion resistance to road salt, and easy workability, that's almost all they sell anymore.

Our local Carquest store mixes paint and can match paint from a sample. They will put it in a spray can for you. I don't know about mixing from a formula. I believe the formulas are brand specific.

The only issue I had is it made the other lines under the hood look shabby (oil filter lines, ect.) Had to redo them all to make it look right!

You may want to remove the shifter to gain room to move the tranny back. (Only 4 bolts). They are right on top so you should be able to get to them by loosening the shifter boot.

I visited the Real Deal Steel plant in Sanford, Florida which is the company that assembles the '40 bodies for Carpenter. I was told the panels themselves are interchangeable with the original parts...

As an alternative, National Parts Depot of Florida provided me with a brass radiator at a price that beat E-Bay and everywhere else's aluminum ones hands down. You might try them. They have a website...

Zenith Spring made a reversed eye main leaf for my 35. They are in Duluth Mn. I think they charged about $35 two years ago. Great people to deal with.

If you are looking for an alternative, try a pump from an '86 Mazda pickup. Internally regulated, inexpensive, and easy to find at the local parts store.

I wish non-ethanol gas were only $.20 higher. In central Fl we are paying 4.95 a gallon vs 3.10 for "corn gas"!

Instead of a nail use an old drill bit of the correct diameter if you need to make a pin. Much better steel!
