Re: Repro Terminal Box Disintegrating!

Yes, that was my experience. A couple of the provided screws were a tiny bit too short to catch the threads of the brass inserts. Fortunately I had some longer slotted round-head screws lying...

Re: Repro Terminal Box Disintegrating!

I bought the old one from Bratton's 17 years ago, almost to the day.

The new box (from the same vendor) is clearly from a different production run.
I had no issue with the hole spacing. They...

Re: Repro Terminal Box Disintegrating!

Hello,

Does the CW Moss replacement box appear to be from a different production run than the one you replaced?

I got a pair, and I'm glad I did. I can drive at night without being scared.

Repro Terminal Box Disintegrating!

Hello,

The repro terminal box on the firewall of my car is maybe 12 years old, and I just noticed that it had a lot of cracks, and chunks of it were starting to fall off. Has anyone ever seen...

Re: Coronavirus vs "A" Drive

Last Saturday we took a drive from NJ to Manhattan. Up Route 1 to the Holland Tunnel, then up to 79th St, over the Triboro Bridge to Astoria in Queens, back to Manhattan, down 5th Avenue to...

Re: 1931 S/W Fordor Sedan Rear Crossmember

Is that cover actually made from 5 pieces of fabric stitched together?

I never got around to replacing mine, and last winter the opening provided an entry point for mice, who set up a breeding...

Re: 160 B front door window trim

My 160B has 3+2 screws. It is from May 1931, and I have never been able to determine who made the body.

Re: Oversize rear wheel grease seals?

My calculations show that if you can cool the seal and heat the hub to get a temperature difference of 130 degrees Celsius ( 234 degrees F), the seal will slide right in. But doing that would be...

Re: Greasing front wheel bearings, thanks!

Maybe an add-on to help deal with worn-out roller tracks?

Oversize rear wheel grease seals?

Hello,

I have heard that in the recent past, some vendors were selling oversize rear wheel grease seals. I just bought a pair, and they measure 3.1930" in diameter.
I measured the inside of the...

Removing rear brake shoes?

Hello,

Is it possible to remove and replace the rear brake shoes without
having to un-bolt and remove the emergency brake carrier?

Thanks,

Re: Brake Rods

I found that the late-style wire springs worked a lot better than the flat ones.
They don't tend to lose their springiness.

Re: Battery Charger Simple Repairs

Great write up! And these days, it's getting harder to find new battery changers with 6 and 12 volt output.

Re: Harbor Freight Blaster A PIA but Works

One more tip: if it's warm enough, wear just a bathing suit.

And always a mask! Otherwise you will be breathing baking soda and lead-based paint dust.

Re: 31A S/W 4D TS Restoration

Based on my experience:

For the roof, I primed everything, installed the wood, installed the fabric, and the molding, masked off the fabric, and then did the final paint.

For the doors, I...

Re: 31A S/W 4D TS Restoration

Hello,

There were several different screw types for that wood. The pieces around the edge were mostly held in place by 1/4-20 carriage bolts that went through both the inner and outer pieces of...

Re: 1931 Model A SW 4D TS Body Restoration

I painted my car's body with single-stage paint. For the underside, interior, firewall, etc. I added some flattening agent to get a semi-gloss.

The flat ones seem to lose their springiness.

Either type should be installed so that they are being pressed back...

Re: General degreasing - any recommendations?

Re: How to change a steering worm gear?

You can weld some pieces of scrap to the shaft close to the worm end, to give the press something to press against. Then you cut them off and grind the welds down (doesn't have to be perfect, since...

Re: Are all 30/31 headlight bars the same?

A few years ago I bought a nice bar at Hershey with holes exactly as you describe, and a few days later I realized that they were not original.
I filled them in (with metal, not bondo) and painted...
