Re: Flat head back firing pop. pop over and over

Check the spark plugs. Carbon fouled spark plugs can cause these symptoms. If not the spark plugs, could be valves. Run some SeaFoam in the gas and squirt some Marvel Mystery Oil in the spark plug...

Re: Oil capacity clarification

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

Not a bushing, but a plug or grub screw to block or close that hole off. Without the push rod in place, oil will be forced through that hole. In a stock set-up, the push rod would cause resistance...

Re: Skip Haney

That's really odd. I verified the number I listed was the one on my phone. Maybe there is an issue with the phone service in FL?

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

Did you clock the rear cam bearing to block the pushrod hole in the block? If not, this could be the cause of your lack of oil pressure.

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

May want to check with Joe's Antique. I seem to recall he had a decent stock of US-made Mellings when they were still dependable pumps, but don't quote me on this.

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

I doubt this was the problem, but are you able to check to make sure the oil pump pick up sits up off the floor of the pan?

Re: Back end of a T-5

Love the H&M motor talk. Yep, 8HP is a big one for sure.

Please post pictures of your T5 adaptor plate one finished.

Re: Tiny ends heavy axles

In my opinion, a dropped '33-'36 axle is the prettiest of the bunch. I love the look of a stock '32 axle and that is what I run, but when they are dropped they look too thick and not as graceful. ...

Re: Waterpumps with smooth pulleys

The "extended" 8RT truck style type pump came up with the '48 F1 series truck. They got the 8BA/8RT in truck speak motors before the cars did in '49.

I believe all trucks were wide belt drives.

Re: At a loss. 1949 Ford flathead V8

It's possible one of the problems is the new condenser. A lot of folks report them being bad right out of the box. I believe NAPA still sells a decent one.

What spark plugs did you use? Did...

Re: Exhaust bolt hole repair

Robert,

Go easy on yourself, man. Very easy mistake to make; especially like you say, if it's been a few years you have one apart.

Honestly, first thing I do is scrap the stock exhaust, so...

Re: Exhaust bolt hole repair

Not every block comes with the exhaust manifolds installed or the bolts. Think bare block.

It's a mistake that I'm sure more than a few people have made. Those unfamiliar with the front...

What do you mean? Using the smaller exhaust bolts for the front two?
