Spark plug condition and backfiring
I have a 1930 Tudor, 4 banger with Snyder 5.5 head, fed by a zenith updraft and sparked with a petronix distributor. Living in denver at 5000 feet.

fire wire as I have been told is a .060 length of steel wire placed on the block under the gasket between cylinders 1-2 & 3-4 to help prevent gasket blowout in this area.

I concur with Jim's opinion on the Riley's. This is my third Riley Two port and even had a 4 port in a roadster a few years ago. All of the engine performed well and were very streetable.
