Odd coolant leak

I replaced the old head with a 5.5-1 and installed a new gasket. Everything is tightened to 55lbs. I noticed some coolant pooling around the nut on the rear driver side stud. I don't see coolant in...

Re: Normal stud?

Well I was able to get ahold of a stud socket and removed 5 without any issues. Also discovered the sleeve was only slid onto the stud. I still have no idea why the sleeve would be there and the head...

Re: Normal stud?

After looking it over it actually looks like the head had a crack in that stud hole. Looks like I'll have to get it out since I don't want to open the hole on a new head and have it fail the same...

Re: Normal stud?

Yeah I guess I have to check that. If I get a new head it could definitely pose a problem when fitting it. If I can get it out I'll try to repair the block to fit the stock size studs again. If that...

Re: Normal stud?

Yeah it came bent and I was lazy and never have it sent back. Has worked just fine over the years. Didn't seem to do any damage to another else.

Re: Normal stud?

Re: Normal stud?

That is exactly what I'm afraid of. So far I have a few out and a few more that look like they shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately there are 3-4 that I cants see the seam between the stud and the...

Re: Normal stud?

I'll have to get a photo but it looks to be a sleeve around the stud on the driver side (not distributor side). It comes up and stops right around the start of the threads on the stud. I will try to...

Normal stud?

Is it normal for the engine stud in the center of the driver side to have a sleeve around it? I am in the processes of removing the old studs to install new ones with a new head. Just have a few that...

Re: Making a head puller.

is the center stud on the driver side sleeved for a reason? all the other studs look about the same but that one has a thicker sleeve around it.

Re: Making a head puller.

Doing a search I had seen your design and came across a few others. I went for the simpler flat plate with bolts pushing on the studs. Thought I may have to make another like yours for the water pump...

Re: Making a head puller.

Finally some success. After smack a wedge around it broke free. Now on to removing the studs. One double butted right out so far two others don't want to budge. I'll have to get a longer wrench on...

Re: Making a head puller.

Yeah I attempted the double nut on the front studs the front corner didn't budge and that is where the head isn't lifting. I just picked up a plastic wedge and will give that a try with the dead blow...

Re: Making a head puller.

Luckily my problem isn't the valve side so I will be staying clear of them. Going to swing by the hardware store and pick up some better plastic wedges. I read in another thread that someone used the...

Re: Making a head puller.

Looks like I have a head that is going to put up a small fight. Got the puller on and started to lift, after about a quarter inch the driver side didn't want to move much more. Looks like the front...

I'll definitely try that tomorrow. I was a bit confused as to how this was an easy task.

Re: Making a head puller.

That worked? I started flattening the punch after a while so I stopped. I guess I'll try to get back to it and hope it gives eventually.

Making a head puller.

I know stuck heads have been covered a bit, but my question is about making a puller. I have my plate drilled and now need to hollow out the spark plugs. After a few broken drill bits and a large...

Re: disc brake conversion

I would love a set up like disc brakes on mine. I know its over kill and can be argued forever, but driving it on a daily basis in Central Fl traffic is a bit of a thrill and not always the good...
