Is that white cookie-like stuff that forms between the head and block anything to worry about? On this motor, it is continuous on all four sides and reforms in two or three months. I don't know...

Is there an adjustment to add more rotary friction on the GAV? Mine has started to drift open while driving and is causing rich running. Today, the motor started skipping and all plugs were covered...

I had one where the gasket between carb top & bottom was too far into the bowl and the float hit it. Sealant build-up etc had to be trimmed back to provide clearance.

Cost to adjust shims

I suspect the rod & main bearings need to be checked for clearance and have shims adjusted. What is a reasonable charge for this - including oil pan cleaning & new oil? About how many shop hours...
