Re: 39 synchronizer question

I just disassembled the transmission. Lo and behold all of the pieces, 3 balls, 3 springs, and 3 plates were in the bottom of the case. The only reason I can see is that whosoever assembled it at...

Re: 39 synchronizer question

I just sent Mac a PM. The transmission has been sitting for many years so I do not really know the history. The outside was very dirty so I do not believe it had been apart for many years. The...

Re: 39 synchronizer question

Someone was using this in an automobile. What would be the effect without these parts, if any?

Re: 39 synchronizer question

No bars, springs or balls. Nothing laying in the bottom of the case. All very clean. The only wear is on the tips of low gear on the mainshaft.

39 synchronizer question

I opened up a 39 3 speed this morning. All looked nice--except- the synchronizer did not have any springs or detent bars. Must be something I do not understand here.

Re: Tolerance-Ford aluminum heads

I don't think I asked the question properly. Overhead valve heads are quite thick and I don't think one would want them to be more than a couple thousands from being perfectly flat at the gasket...

Tolerance-Ford aluminum heads

Is there a tolerance amount that can be overcome with proper torque application for the flatness of a Ford aluminum head horizontally and vertically?

Re: Condenser

I cannot see why the cost would be a consideration with your "Trashcan" or a Vertex condenser. I consider them both "one and done". If a guy wants peace of mind buy a spare to draw dust! LOL The...

Re: Banjo rear end hub, axle bearings and seals

When I was young (long time ago) I was taught to never mix new bearings with used races and vice-versa. With a banjo rear housing and hubs we don't have much choice. I have found that finding good...

I always wonder what other members look like. Sometimes someone else slips in a picture of members, even the banned fellas, like CharlieNY. I liked the picture of the "counselor" sound asleep in his...

Flat one piece windshields

My personal preference on the early cars and especially the pickups are the flat-one piece windshields. After going to the split windshield in 1937 though the 1947 pickups I wonder why Ford went back...

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

I would tell the "guy" that you will haul it away if he pays you $100. I also would have the money in my hand first from a "guy" with no principles!

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

Right on Tony. It is a feeling you cannot describe. It can only be felt by those of us who get the warm fuzzy feelings. I can even get that in the coldest days of winter sitting in my shop and...

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

You are absolutely right Joe! Then the owner dies and they have a sale. The parts get piled, helter skelter on a wooden pallet with no thought of value. A buyer bids on one or two items he needs for...
