Re: Is this correct?

After I got out of the Army I worked at a local dairy that had a distribution hub in Indio, CA. When we had to work on a truck there during the summer we kept our tools in a bucket of water to keep...

Re: Condenser

From a post over on the Early V8 Forum

Many, perhaps most new condensers are simply poor quality.
NOS condensers are often defective due to age. A couple of years ago, I'd tested perhaps 50...

Re: Condenser

Condenser issues aren't limited to flatheads. I have a converted Chevy distributor in my 8ba. The condenser died and I replaced it with a Hecho in Mexico one made by Standard. It lasted about a week...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Automatic starters are different from the ones for standards. Just a thought.

Re: Head bolt/stud sealant

The machinist who built my 8ba short block recommended #2 Permatex to seal the head bolts. Followed his advice and no issues.

Re: Condenser

Never used one but Tubman over on the HAMB makes highly rated condensers.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Somewhere along the line I ended up with this metal "gasket" Have no idea what it was used for but maybe for determining clearances or to correct over milled heads? Thicker than a normal gasket but...

Re: Trip to the nationals in the 34

Looks like the homemade bumper/guard on the jail bar did it's job. The grill looks surprisingly straight from what I can see in the photo. Thanks for all the photos and details of what sounds like a...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

IMO the easiest and best distributor solution is a converted Chevy or Mallory unit. I'm running a mechanical advance Chevy unit converted by Bubba (RIP)
The only issue is the appearance of the Chevy...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

The starter plate is for a truck and uses the insert shown that then bolts up to the truck pan. IIRC

1954 Ford body to frame mount pads

I had some mount pads part number B4A-7000141-A made from urethane since most everyone is out of stock. I have 23 left over from the run. They are free for anyone who wants them for the cost of...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

For the head bolts sealer I used #2 Permatex per the recommendation of the machinist who did my 8ba short block but I'm sure there are other options as well.

Re: Solenoid clicking. Won't start

If you determine it's the starter disassemble it. If the failure was like mine you'll be shocked at what the innards look like.

Re: Solenoid clicking. Won't start

The Powermaster starter I had in my 8ba stopped working. When I took it apart it was completely destroyed. Plastic parts and a small unit inside a stock looking case. Worthless POS IMO. Do yourself a...

Re: Is this a widow maker wheel?

IIRC the bolt pattern for Ford big trucks changed after 1934. If that's the case, then no, it's not a widow maker wheel. But over on the Ford Truck Exchange there is a member Stu who goes by truckdog...
