Rod Bearings

New to the flathead scene. Anyone's help is appreciated. Engine has been rebuilt previously. Engine was balanced and sleeved. If I bore connecting rods to .010 over will that throw off the engine balance.Looking for .030 oversize rod flanged bearings with standard OD for 21 stud 85 hp engine. Thanks again for any help received

Did you get the message I sent ?

Re: Rod Bearings

Why would you want to bore the connecting rods oversize, If the crank is .030" Under, just install '030 under bearings. I do like to hone the rods .001 over stock. Check with Nax VP for bearings

Re: Rod Bearings

If I read this correctly. First measure the rods, you want those standard, if they are over sized have them re sized back to standard. Why because of what is available. Hope I wrote this right; std. & .030s are out there, but .010-.030s doubtful. Stay with what
Ol' Ron said ! unless you have very deep pockets. Being new to these, hope you have
a good book cause you have to fit these finicky time consuming bearings on your kitchen table. sam

Thanks for all the help. I'm pretty finicky too. Got good books recommended by guys on FordBarn. Just couldn't find .030 under/ standards. Ron, who is Nax VP, cant find him.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm pretty finicky too. Got books recommended by guys on FordBarn. Just couldn't find .030 under/ standard bearings. Is it ok to use 3 different brands, pairs match, if they are fitted properly? Ron is Nax VP a member? Can't find him. Thanks again.

Most of us on the barn know Ron's vision is not what it used to be but we all know what he is stating since we are accustomed to it. Mac VanPelt (or Mac VP) was the name he meant.

Try Southside Obsolete (barnfind08 here on the barn) for OEM type oversizes. The other option would be to just replace the crankshaft. You can use a later long snout crankshaft on an old 21 stud but there is likely a few good short snout cranks still out there.
