41 Ford - dash

Can anyone tell me if a 1940 Ford car dash will fit into a '41 Ford car?

This is a project 41 Ford car that was started a long time ago, and I'd like to look into getting a modern gauge cluster. They're pretty easily available for the 40 but I can't find anything for the '41.

Along the same lines, would a '47 Ford car dash work in the '41?

Thanks for any information you can give.

Nick

I seriously doubt that the 40 dash will fit without a lot of modification . The 42-48 dash will definitely fit as the 41 body is basically the same as the 42-48 body. You'll see 41 dashes in the later cars quite frequently. You can get a modern set of gauges for the 42-48 dash from many vendors.

In Australia, the 42-48 fords all used 41 dashes. A 40 dash would require a bit of work to make it fit as the body on a 40 is narrower. Pat

TJ - Can you specify some/any of the vendors who sell modern gauge kits for the '42 - '48 dash? I've not seen them advertised. Thanks.

Henry, check with Southern Rods and Parts at 1-800-787-8763. They show gauges and panels and adapters to fit the 42-48 dash to use VDO or other gauges. I would also check with Haneline at 1-888-878-8678 and Yogi's at 1-800-373-1937. You also might check with Dick Spadaro as he carries aftermarket items for old Fords.
Your other option would be to use the stock gauge panel and remove the stock gauges and put modern gauges behind the stock panel. You have to use gauges that sweep in the top third of the gauge to see them through the panel. You can use your stock speedo and convert your clock to a AA battery powered clock. You can get the clock works at most hobby stores for around $10.
