Model A hubs on V8 Axle?

Can Model A hubs be used on a V8 axle (I’m assuming that all the v8 axles used the same taper which may not be true)? Do all the V8 axles use the same hub? Thanks

Re: Model A hubs on V8 Axle?

It depends on which V8 axle. The hub bearings changed in 1936. The early 1932 axle is a lot like the Model A but they started using 12" drum hubs so they have different brakes. The axle tapers might be the same but backspacing off the axle tube flanges might be different due to the different rear brakes.

Rear hubs changed a lot on later V8 axles with 5 X 5.5" bolt patterns and the wide 5 patterns used till the hydraulic brake change in 1939.

Model Ts used the same taper, only it was a smaller axle.

Yes they can but the only advantage is the spring mounting. You can just make a bolt-on bracket to accomplish this.

I've rebuilt the rear axle to include the rear hubs for my early ’32. I was able to use ’31 bearings, hubs, axle rod, cup/race, etc. to rebuild the rear axle inclusive of the rear hub. However, the rear stud lugs are not shared between 1931 and 1932. Also, the rear and the front stud lugs for a 1932 are not interchangeable.

As far as swapping the actual hub (items in the bottom of the picture) I am not sure if you can take a Model A hub and swap it with a 1932.

You can’t swap a complete rear Model A hub assembly with a 1932 rear hub assembly. To start with the brake actuator arms are of different lengths. In the below picture, I’ve stacked a Model A brake actuator arm on top of a 1932 actuator arm.
