Bob Drake Ford Carbs

I am building a modified 8ba and expect to use the Offenhauser Super Dual intake equipped with 49-53 Ford carbs. Bob Drake has that type carb. Does anyone have experience with his product? Thanks. Richard

Re: Bob Drake Ford Carbs

My recommendation would be to do a search on here, find Charlie NY and buy the carbs from him. Not only will they probably be cheaper than Drake, but they will be tested and better quality.

X2 for Charlie. He just did my carb and the price could not be beat!

Thanks for the information. I called Charlie and look forward to installing two nicely purposed 94's in time for summer crusin'. Richard

Richard, You made a wise choice. Charley is really good at what he does. And, to top it off, a good guy :)

Re: Bob Drake Ford Carbs

Richard,
're this modified 8BA, when you swap to two carbs the stock loadamatic ignition will not work anywhere near properly, and never will. You will need a mechanical advance (plus vacuum) ignition. Easy option is a converted delco ignition, if you haven't sorted this, while your talking to Charlie, ask him about this. He can build you the delco ignition with mechanical and vacuum with a proper flathead ignition curve.
Martin.

I'm glad it worked out. I'm sure you will be as pleased as I am with my dual 94's from Charlie.

Happy motoring! Andy

You can also get the modified GM ignition from Bubbas Ignition on here. I've used several from him and they worked great.

Thanks for the reminder. I've run dual 94's on an earlier engine and know of the need for modification regarding the ignition. Nice to know that there are two highly regarded sources of the "Chevy conversion." Richard
