junkyard find/ 56 Ford Ranch Wagon

I was scrounging through a local junkyard the other day and saw a pretty fair 56 ranch wagon. It has some rust in normal places, but apears to be all there. The only thing is it didn't have the Fairlane sidetrim on it, it had a two piece trim like a cheaper model. I think he said he had the title and wanted $3000. but I could be wrong about that. I have his no. if anyone is interested. It's in southeast Nebraska

Sorry, forgot the picture. It was complete with 292/4brl, dual exhaust and trailer hitch.
Unless the car had no rust.......................it's not worth $3k!

I wouldn't say that. I paid more than that for my 56 Parklane. Of course it was a driver, and 100% complete, down to the tarp that snaps on behind the rear seat to hide whats on the floor.

Did the $500 car come with the goats and chickens?

Check out these '54 Mercs my son spotted on CL, only about 100 miles from home.

I think if I had the time and a place to stash 'em for future playstuff, I'd go for these rare wagons:

Almost looks like 2 builders here, rather than just one but I'd guess that finding parts for 'em might be a challenge.

Just because one guy finds one cheap doesnt mean they are all cheap. He got lucky..thats all.
$3,000 might be a tad much, but if its all there, and not terribly rusted, its worth every bit of 1500-2500.. all depends on condition and OPTIONS.

Not sure what "rust in the usual places" means.. I know where these cars are rust prone, but that doesnt make it good if its rotten in those spots.
Better to have "no rust in the usual places"
People say that like its acceptable..no, its just another run of the mill 55-56 wagon with rust.

The ones that bring the cash have NO or very little rust.

A Ranch Wagon is the Customline variant which means it has Customline trim.
I bet if the seller holds firm someone will pay his price.
The Ranch Wagons look great done up.
It all depends on how much you can do yourself and how much you have to pay to get done.

I like the Ranch Wagons with the Customline trim better than the ones with the Fairlane trim. 40+ years ago when I was in high school and working at a local body shop, we had a '56 Ranch Wagon, 223 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree that was our parts chaser. Loved driving that old wagon--it could haul (in more ways than one) and could (and often did when I drove it) bark the tires when you shifted from low to second. If we had known how many miles that thing had on it, we probably would have been afraid to drive it, but it ran and handled great. Would love to have it now.

Not quite as flashy as a Parklane for sure, but there's something special about a basic Ranch Wagon, I love my 55!

Frank Cowan,

Yup, I got one goat and one chicken....................I just couldn't pass up the deal.

Ray,

Just so you won't feel bad, when I got the car to the garage I found out the most of the lower part of the roof (at the drip rail) was like tissue paper...................so I bought I very nice roof for $250 and spent another $1k cutting the old one off and graphting a new one on. So the investment was then $1750. After a little work the motor ran, and it was all there, even the fold down rear seat, and extra tailgate. I even know where you can pickup a 57 Chevy 2dr wagon that has been sitting for years outside for many years and that car is $1k. If they are a driver and in good condition then I agree the $3k may be a good price.
